Imam ash-Shafi’i (rahimahullah) said concerning Ahmad bin Hanbal (rahimahullah):
“He is an Imam in eight fields: 1) Hadeeth, 2) Jurisprudence, 3) (Arabic) language, 4) Qur’an, 5) Poverty, 6) Zuhd (worldly-detachment), 7) Piety and 8) the Sunnah.”
